The EU’s European Accessibility Act (Directive (EU) 2019/882) entered into force in 2019; its requirements began applying to newly placed in-scope products and services — including e-commerce, banking, and certain digital services — from 28 June 2025, with existing services given a longer transition. It applies directly only within the EU, so it mainly affects businesses with EU-facing operations. The UK has not yet confirmed equivalent legislation, though observers expect it to follow.
